Vol. 1 No. 3 (2021): Special Issue: Wye Magazine
Special Issue: Wye Magazine

Wye is the flagship publication of the Global Association of Economics Education, UK (GAEE UK), launched in February 2021 as the organization's first magazine. It was founded during the Covid-19 lockdowns, when GAEE UK itself was created to offer economics resources beyond what schools could provide, at a time when there was, in the founders' words, "nowhere to go."

This inaugural issue brings together student-written analysis on some of the defining economic debates of the moment: whether governments should prioritize GDP growth or well-being in the 21st century, the case for pandemic-era stimulus measures, the long-standing tension between free markets and command economies, and a review of Hans Rosling's Factfulness. Additional pieces cover quantitative easing, the US-China trade war through a game theory lens, and features on GAEE UK's own schools network and its partnership with the Royal Economics Society.

Edited by Noah Murdoch (Co-Founder and Editor) and Brandon Chan, the issue reflects the volunteer-driven, student-led spirit of GAEE UK, which by early 2021 had grown to members across more than 30 schools in the UK. As Murdoch writes in the Editor's Note, Wye was conceived as a recurring monthly publication, with this first edition marking the start of that ongoing effort.
